Benefits for Women

Normally the uterus leans slightly over the bladder in the center of the pelvis, about one and a half inches above the pubic bone. It is held in this position by muscles, the vaginal wall and ligaments that attach it to the back, front, and sides of the pelvis. Uterine ligaments are made to stretch to accommodate a growing fetus inside and to move freely when the bladder or bowel is full. The ligaments and muscles can weaken and loosen, causing the uterus to fall downward, forward, backward or to either side.

A uterus in any of these positions is called tilted or prolapsed. Modern medicine has little or nothing to offer women with this problem. Options may include using the birth control pill, muscle relaxants, or surgery and women are generally told, "your uterus is tipped, but that is normal and don't worry about it." Yet women have a laundry list of physical and emotional symptoms that can be addressed and prevented with these simple, noninvasive massage techniques. When reproductive organs shift, they can constrict normal flow of blood and lymph, and disrupt nerve connections. Just a few extra ounces sitting on blood and lymph vessels can cause havoc throughout the different systems in the body. By shifting the uterus back into place, homeostasis, or the natural balance of the body, is restored in the pelvic area and the surrounding organs. Toxins are flushed and nutrients that help to tone tissue and balance hormones are restored to normal order. This is essential for healthy pregnancy, labor, and delivery.

Old adhesions from invasive treatments to the pelvic and abdominal area, including fibroid tumors, endometriosis, and cesarean delivery are diminished when addressed by uterine massage. In addition, digestion, urinary and bladder problems can be helped.

PMS and Maya Abdominal Massage (MAM)

There is no doubt that a displaced uterus is a major contributing factor for PMS. If the uterus is out of place, its circulation is congested. Therefore there is a delay in receiving chemical signals from the brain. This is the hormonal feedback loop between the hypothalamus and the reproductive organs. Once the brain has received the message that it is time to send down either estrogen or progesterone, the uterine lining and the ovaries in turn send back a chemical message that the appropriate amount of hormones has been sent and duly received.

The circulatory pathology however, prevents this message from reaching the hypothalamus and it continues to produce more hormones above the physiological need. This excess can cause extreme mood swings, bloating, etc. What was meant to be cyclic becomes erratic. The kidneys and liver are then overtaxed with excess hormone levels, and soon the adrenals are exhausted, the pituitary is exhausted and the entire system, including the mind and emotions, can go awry.

Considering it physiologically, if our uterus has become displaced, circulation to the brain is lessened. If the woman is anemic, then there will be an even greater emotional reaction during the premenstrual time. Even less blood is available to the brain because the uterus, ovaries, and endometrium are demanding more blood supply to fulfill their functions.

Less blood supply to the brain leads to dark, depressing thoughts and a gloomy outlook.

Chronic Miscarriages and Maya Abdominal Massage

Proper blood supply to the uterus is essential for a healthy pregnancy. If the blood supply to the membrane is so poor, proper nutrients and hormones do not flow in sufficient amounts to support life. Some miscarriages are blamed on "an incompetent cervix." Lack of nutrients and oxygen from clean, nutrient rich blood in the arteries leads to eventual weakness of any function or organ. In this case, as the implanted fetus begins to grow in weight, the pressure exerted on the muscular wall of the cervix is too much for this sickly structure to support. As soon as the weight is greater than the strength of the cervix, out passes the fetus and miscarriage results.

Painful Ovulation and Maya Abdominal Massage

Ovulations occurs when the mature egg moves from the follicle of the ovary into the fallopian tube. If fertilization occurs in the fallopian tube, the fertilized ovum travels to the uterus attaching to the uterine lining for growth. In order for ovulation to occur extra amounts of blood supply and fluids are called for by the ovaries, causing them to expand.

If the uterus is dropped (sometimes lying right on top of the ovary) and undernourished, the tissues surrounding it are likely to be inflamed and extremely tender. When the ovaries expand and move during ovulation, they press against inflamed and oxygen depleted tissues which is the source of the pain.

The mother's urinary, venous, and lymphatic systems must be able to remove the additional waste material produced by the developing fetus. A uterus denied a full supply of oxygen, nutrients, hormones, lymphatic fluids, and venous drainage may be too weak and congested to fulfill its reproductive destiny.

Endometriosis and Maya Abdominal Massage

Uterine membrane cells can run amuck when they are denied control by central regulating bodies, the brain and immune system. Our immune system would normally recognize invading, errant cells and destroy then, disallowing any such attachment. But, if circulation of the lymph, arteries, veins, and nerves in the pelvic area is faulty, how can defensive forces get in to fight off the invaders? They can't. The internal situation is further complicated by the fact that endometriosis is not an invasion of foreign tissue, but of resident tissues lodging where they do not belong. Thus, the immune system may not recognize this as a foreign invader.

Setting the uterus back into it's proper position is step one. Then give nature time to act on the pathology it has been unable to reach before. Make sure that the entire spinal column is in proper alignment and all muscle spasms that are cutting off the arterial blood flow have been addressed. The internal balance inherent within every human body will be able to detect this pathology of migrant tissue, gradually dissolve it, and allow it to be carried away in the lymph and veins. There will be great changes in the menstrual cycles once these adjustments have been made.

Late, Early, or Irregular Periods and Maya Abdominal Massage

Menstruation takes place by virtue of a hormonal feedback system between the ovaries, uterus, and the hypothalamus in the brain.

Estrogen is needed to build up the uterine membrane in preparation for pregnancy and a clear, crisp drop of estrogen and progesterone levels are needed to flush the membrane and begin menstruation. But, if the feedback mechanism is broken, what is the brain to do but guess how much of the hormones are required. That is the cause of irregular menstrual cycles, which is a direct result of the broken chemical messages sent from the uterus and ovaries to the brain and hypothalamus. These broken chemical messages are due to the restriction in nerve and blood flow between the brain and the reproductive organs.

Taking artificial hormones in the form of birth control pills to regulate menstruation is simply alleviating a symptom and further confusing homeostasis, and never getting to the cause. Lifting the uterus up and away from the pelvic floor allows for free flowing, uninterrupted hormonal messages and normal menstrual cycles.

Painful Periods and Maya Abdominal Massage

Too many women and girls suffer from painful menstruation. The truth is that most women have a dropped uterus causing painful periods. Until this is corrected, no pills or herbs will bring about any permanent change. The basic underlying cause must be treated. When the uterine muscle lacks proper oxygen, acid builds up and cramping is the result.

In the uterus, this acid accumulation and lack of oxygen cause an inability to flush fluids properly and completely. Therefore, there is a build up of menstrual fluids on the uterine membrane which harden and dry from month to month. This is called enduration, which leads to endometritis, eventually leading to endometriosis. Pain gets worse each cycle because the uterus has ever more endurated thick blood to expel while working against the acid accumulation and the poor oxygen supply.

If the uterus has fallen, the organ is weak, undernourished and toxic. Every single function it performs will be affected. A weak, undernourished uterus cannot clean itself out properly from month to month. In order to get the build up of thickened, hardened fluids flowing out, the uterus has to twist and turn violently. That intense twisting of the uterus is painful. A normal uterus in its proper position only has to move waves of excitation gently from the nerve endings to cause the membrane to flush the menstrual fluids out.

Uterine Infections and Maya Abdominal Massage

Infection occurs when the body is invaded by some living organism and eventually causes pathology to the host. If the lymph and veins are unable to carry away debris and waste products from the cells and tissues, a perfect breeding ground for bacteria is created. Pus present during infections is the remains of leukocytes that died in the attempt to fight off the invading organism.

Ideally, our immune cells should rush to the site of infection, gobbling up the invader cells within minutes of receiving chemical messages from the invaders waste products. This is known as chemo taxis. If the pathway to the site of infection is so congested that the signals don't get through clearly, the infection will be greater and longer lasting. It is the weight of the dropped uterus on structures and organs that results in weakened functioning of the tissues. It can also be difficult to treat these uterine infections with antibiotics because they, too, are unable to reach the site of infection due to congestion and constriction in the circulation.

Digestive Problems and Maya Abdominal Massage

ndividuals with digestive disorders benefit greatly from Maya Abdominal Massage. Many of our common disorders such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Indigestion, Constipation, and heartburn are treated with antacids, muscle relaxants, and a variety of other medications. These treatments address symptoms, not the causes. By using the techniques of Maya Abdominal Massage, the upper abdomen is also given a deep, thorough massage to loosen the tight muscles around the stomach and the arteries that feed the digestive and eliminative organs with their vital blood supply. The diaphragm is gently massaged allowing relaxation of tight musculature.

The uterus sits in a posterior shelf known as the recto-uterine pouch, a very small space between the uterus and the rectum. Even a minor misalignment of the uterus will apply undue pressure on the colon and the rectum, thereby restricting circulation to the colon. Movement of the intestines, or peristalsis, depends on the unobstructed supply of nerve impulse and arterial blood. Often a retroverted or backward tilted uterus will cause constipation. Long-term uterine displacement can lead to degeneration of the cells in both the uterus and the colon, creating an environment that could easily progress to cancer.

This is easily alleviated when the uterus is replaced into its natural position. Water balance in the body directly affects the softness of the stool. Since hormones control fluid balance, a dropped uterus could contribute to hard stools and aggravate a tendency to be constipated. Other factors such as diet, stress and water intake must be considered, but the undue pressure from the uterus is a major contributing factor in chronic constipation for women.

Painful Intercourse

If the cervix is in a collapsed state and lying too low within the pelvis, when intercourse occurs the thrusting of the penis against an inflamed vagina and cervix will be painful. When the uterus drops out of its correct location, the vaginal wall does not receive full innervation from the nerves and spinal column, nor does it receive a nutrient rich blood source to insure proper lubrication. Vaginal walls can be irritated by the friction of intercourse. This symptom readily disappears when the uterus is lifted into proper placement.
